This estimate can be affected by a number of factors. In some cases, vaping can be more expensive than smoking cigarettes.

We can help you get started if you’re interested in knowing the juicy details.

How much does vaping cost?

Vaping costs anywhere between $387 and $5082.50 a year, depending on how much vaping you do during the day. If you compare vaping to smoking, for example, if you smoke one pack of cigarettes a day, it could cost you anywhere from $2087.8 up to $5091.75 per year.

In this case, vaping is cheaper than smoking. However, in some instances, it can be more costly than smoking.

Three factors influence the cost of vaping:

  1. What vape do you buy?
  2. Your e-juice price
  3. Vape Juice Consumption

We’ll go over each factor to see how it affects the price of vaping.

How much are VAPES?

In the vaping world, vaping devices are called vapes and are also referred to as E-cigarettes.

How much does a vaporizer cost?

There are PG and VG Flavorings of Nicotine.

There are two types of e-juices.

  1. Regular E-juice with Freebase Nicotine
  2. Nicotine Salts Ejuice (Used with Pod Mods or Low Wattage Devices because of the high nicotine content, e.g. 25 mg to 50 mg)

So, how much does vape juice cost?

The average price of vape juice is determined by the size of the juice bottle and the quality of the liquid. Below are the average prices of vape juice.

Let’s move on to the third factor, the daily average consumption of e-liquid.

What is the average e-juice consumption per day?

Vaping costs are determined by the amount of vape juice you consume. Your e-liquid usage will vary depending on which device you use and the e-liquid that you use.

The amount of vape juice you consume will affect how often you purchase juice and the cost to maintain your device. As you use more e-liquid, you’ll need to replace coils more frequently.

We have divided the e-juice intake in ml/day and separated it into two types of vape juices: regular nic and nic salts.

AVERAGE REGULAR CONSUMPTION OF E-JUICE

A study conducted in 2014 found that most vapers vaped between 2 and 6 ml of liquid per day.

We did not take into account the nicotine content of e-juices when calculating the numbers in,., and therefore, we used numbers that were equivalent to or higher than smoking one pack per day.

How much do vape coils cost?

Average cost of coils:$ 2-$ 5

Vape coils can last from one to four weeks, depending on how much you vape and what kind of juice you are using. Vape coils are purchased regularly, just like vape liquid.

In general, vapers use one coil every two weeks. Vapers who use waves heavily will need to replace them once a week.

AVERAGE CONSUMPTION OF NICOTINE-SALTED E-JUICE

We did not include nicotine levels in e-juices when calculating, ., and therefore, were liberally estimated to be equivalent to or greater than smoking one pack of cigarettes a day. Based on anecdotal data, medium vaping will equal smoking one pack of cigarettes a day.

How much does vaping cost per month?

Vaping costs vary depending on how frequently you purchase e-juice and coils.

The chart shows a range of prices based on e-juices.

We looked at three factors to calculate the numbers:

  1. E-liquid Consumption
  2. How often do you replace coils/pods?
  3. The average price of e-liquids

According to the AWL report for 2017, the average cost of a pack is $5.72 in Kentucky and $13.95 in New York.

According to these numbers, the price of smoking one pack per day can range between $174 and 424. It can cost from $74 up to 204 per month.

MONTHLY COST FOR VAPING CIG A-LIKES

Vaping cigarettes costs anywhere between $ 103 and $122.

  • A regular cigarette user can vape anywhere between 1 and 3 pre-filled cartridges each day. The chart shows that we averaged two cartridges a day.
  • If you buy replacement cartridges in bulk, the price can vary from $1.70 to $2.00 per cartridge.

Comparing vaping with smoking cigarettes at two cartridges per day can save between 30 and 76%.

The cost of vaping pod mods is calculated on a monthly basis.

We used a different range of prices to calculate monthly vaping costs for Pod Mods. We also computed costs differently for the two types of pod mods: Open and Closed.

The cost per month of vaping nicotine salts with Open System pod devices can range from $74 up to $84.

  • The price of nicotine salt juice can range from 15 dollars to 30 dollars per 30 ml. This is equivalent to $0.50 to $0.6667 per ml.
  • In our calculations, we used 2ml of nic-salt per day.
  • Replacement costs for refillable pods range from 4 to 5 dollars. In the above calculations, we used $5 per replacement cartridge twice a week.

Comparing the costs of smoking to vaping nic-salts in open pods, 52-83% savings were realized. The empty pod system was the device that resulted in significant savings. Let’s now take a closer look at closed-pod designs.

The cost per month of vaping closed-pod systems can range from 91 to 152.

  • The average price per pod, regardless of the ml volume, ranges between 3 and 5 dollars.
  • In our calculations, the amount of nic-salt consumed was one pod per heavy smoker each day.

Vaping closed pods is a great alternative to smoking one pack of cigarettes a day. You can save anywhere between 13 and 79%.

Open pod devices are cheaper than closed pod systems. Both devices are cost-effective.

The cost of sub-ohm vaping devices (vape pens/box mods)

Most of the vaping products on the market are sub-ohm devices. Sub-ohm vapes, such as box mods and vape pens, use regular e-juices. Due to the higher wattages, these devices are known for being juice guzzlers.

Vaping sub-ohm devices can cost anywhere between $79 and 204 per month.

  • The price ranges from $0.125/ml up to $0.416667/ml.
  • In our calculations, we used 15ml per day. The average daily e-juice usage in 2014 was 2-6 ml.
  • In the chart, we also used to calculate the monthly costs.

Vaping is 17% more costly than smoking cigarettes if you use 15 ml of e-juice per day, with a coil replacement every week. If you purchase the cheapest vape liquid at $15 for 120ml, you can save 81% on monthly costs.

Is Vaping Cheaper Than Smoking?

Vaping costs between $387.75 and $5082.5 per year, while smoking one pack of cigarettes a day will cost you anywhere from $2087.8 up to $591.75.

If you smoke one pack of cigarettes a day, switching to vaping could save you as much as 92%. Vaping can be more expensive than smoking in some cases.

We’ll go over the situations where vaping is more expensive than smoking one pack of cigarettes a day.

  • Ciga-a-likes: If you vape three or more cartridges a day, at 2 dollars each, this will cost about 5% more than smoking five packs a day.
  • Sub Ohm Devices: If you buy 60ml of e-juice for 25 dollars and vape 15ml each day, as well as changing your coils every week, you will pay about 22-23% more than if you smoked a pack that costs more than 5.72 dollars.

To save money, we suggest that you increase the strength of nicotine in your e-liquid or buy larger liquids to keep in the long term.

Which vape should I buy?

Switching to vaping makes sense economically, especially in states like New York, where sin taxes can cost up to $14 for a pack.

Where do you begin?

#1 Nicotine Salt

According to the data, nicotine salts are the most cost-effective vaping solution. They are not only the most economical but also a popular way to help smokers quit. Nic Salt devices are user-friendly for beginners and effective because of their high nicotine content.

#2 Cig-a-likes

Due to their user-friendliness and ease of use, many vapers choose to upgrade to a more advanced device for better flavor and flexibility. If you use three cartridges a day, cigarette-a-likes are expensive.

#3 Sub-ohm Vape Pens & Box Mods

Subohm Devices will save you 81% or cost you only 17% of what you would pay for smoking. Many smokers have been able to quit smoking due to the amazing flavor and cloud production that high-wattage devices produce. Sub-ohm vape pen is the best option for beginners due to their intuitive design. Box mods are more difficult to use.
